Council Direction Statement
Baldwin Park serves a diverse community and other park patrons. The play equipment in the park is near its end in terms of its lifecycle. A new, remodeled playground can focus on safety while still creating a fun zone for children and their caregivers.
Carrboro promotes the needs of residents’ well-being. Renovating the play area at Baldwin Park is one way to meet the needs of both mind and body. Community members can use the park to walk their dog, play basketball, or enjoy a picnic with friends. Regardless of how they choose to use the space, they’ll be able to benefit in their own way from the opportunity for physical, mental and social health that a park provides to the community.

Information
INFORMATION: Playground replacement at Baldwin Park was one of the original projects selected by Town Council. Town staff conducted a survey within a 10 minute walk of the park by adversting the survey online, social media and walking door to door while leaving door hangers for a QR code for the survey. Staff also was onsite on Thursday, May 17th in the evening with snacks to talk to residents and park users as an open house.
Staff conducted an informal bid process incompliance with the purchasing manual. In the bid process we shared the findings of the survey to allow the bidders to use their creativity to present designs with the playground elements that best match the survey results. Staff also requested the playground to bee accessible for all abilities.
Staff presented all of the submitted bids to the Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Advisory Board and they unanimous voted to recommend Barrs Recreation for this project.
