Council Direction Statement
The Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan (Carrboro Connects Comprehensive Plan | Carrboro, NC - Official Website <https://www.carrboronc.gov/2389/Carrboro-Connects-Comprehensive-Plan>) was developed with the foundational themes of race and equity and climate action. Chapter four of the Comprehensive Plan calls for a bold and ambitious climate action goal to reduce municipal and community greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030 from a 2010 baseline. Chapter six calls for nature-based solutions, such as improving tree canopies to reduce urban heat islands and expanding green infrastructure as part of stormwater, watershed restoration and climate resilience efforts.
The consideration of Race and Equity is woven through every chapter of the Comprehensive Plan, including commitments to provide services and affordable housing for both homeowners, renters and the unsheltered, addressing the disparate impacts of past transportation decisions, investing in climate action and green infrastructure with a focus on Carrboro’s BIPOC, lower-income and multiple abilities populations, creating a more inclusive economy, celebrating the diversity of Carrboro through cultural events, and expanding equitable community participation in decision-making.
