PURPOSE:  The purpose of this agenda item is to brief the Board of Aldermen on recent changes with the South Orange Fire District contract with Orange County.

INFORMATION: On May 21st, 2013, the Orange County Board of County Commissioners approved the new contract with the Town of Carrboro for the South Orange Fire District.  The new contract removes two islands of residential homes Carrboro Fire-Rescue currently protects near Mt. Carmel Church Road, east of Southern Village and places that area under the greater Chapel Hill Fire District.  In addition, the new contract allowed Carrboro Fire-Rescue to increase its' taxable fee under N.C.G.S. 153A-307 up to 10 cents per one-hundred dollar valuation.  This increase will generate approximately $83,000 per year.
 
FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: $83,000 increase in revenue for new contract with slightly less fire district to protect.  The volume of calls for service is not expected to change due to the reduction in the approximately 100 parcels.
