Occupancy Tax Collections by Expedia for Travelocity
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is to acknowledge that Expedia has assumed responsibility for occupancy tax collections for Travelocity effective August 2013.

INFORMATION: On December 2, 2014 the Board of Aldermen adopted an agreement between Orange County and other municipalities regarding payment of room occupancy taxes when travelers make reservations and payments for accommodations via online travel companies (e.g., Orbitz, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc.). Since that time Expedia has assumed responsibility for Travelocity transactions in the US and Canada effective August 2013. Travelocity has requested Orange County and the taxing jurisdiction to sign the attached letter agreement recognizing Travelocity's obligation under the Resolution Agreement adopted in December 2014 are limited.
FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: Additional occupancy tax revenues are expected; however, it is difficult to project the dollar amount of additional revenues.
RECOMMENDATION:r That the Board of Aldermen adopt the attached letter agreement and authorize the Town Manager to execute it.
