PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is for the Council to approve the consolidation of the Truth Plaque Task Force (TPTF) and Racial Equity Commission (REC) to one commission serving Carrboro residents.

Council Direction Statement
The Town Council understands that all voices matter, especially those most impacted and is committed to diversifying boards and commissions.
Information
INFORMATION: During a closed session on November 29, 2023, Town Council expressed an interest in pursuing the consolidation of some of the town’s advisory boards and commissions to address efficiencies. On February 13, 2024 staff presented recommendations at the Council work session. Council directed staff to meet with commissions and boards that were being considered. TPTF and REC have a similar purpose. See Attachment A for meeting summary.
Fiscal and Staff Impact
FISCAL IMPACT: No fiscal impact. The consolidation is budget neutral. All funding should remain to offset projects and commission needs.
Recommendation
RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends consolidating the Truth Plaque Task Force and Racial Equity Commission. The newly formed commission will meet and develop a charge and membership structure to bring back for Council consideration in the fall.
