INFORMATION: 1/13/15 Funds were approved in the 2013-14 Operating Budget to update the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park Master Plan. The original plan was completed in September 17, 2004 by Site Solutions. Following a six month planning process, a master plan for the park was approved by both the Recreation and Parks Commission and the Board of Aldermen. In the ten years since the plan was approved, the park has been used by the public as a community garden and an informal open space for walking and low impact recreation activities. Currently the park is scheduled for planning and design in fiscal year 2016-17.

In March, 2014 Site Solutions was chosen to update the MLK Jr Park master plan. The first public workshop was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the park. The purpose of the meeting was to inform the public of the Town's efforts to develop a plan and gather input from the public on desires for park facilities. On Saturday, September 13, 2014 the second public meeting was held at the Century Center. During this meeting participants were able to design their ideal park.

During the November 3rd Recreation and Parks Commission meeting two concept designs were presented as a result of the community input. Overall, the attendees seemed supportive of the concepts and made suggestions. The Recreation and Parks Commission approved supporting design A along with considering the suggestions provided.

Derek Williams will present a summary of the process and the concept designs along with preliminary estimates.
