INFORMATION:  In order to create the attached framework for a Youth Advisory Board, town representatives reached out to youth at Carrboro High, Chapel Hill High, the NAACP Youth Council, and El Centro to gather feedback on the purpose, selection process, membership and terms, and responsibilities of a Youth Advisory Board. A charter for this Board will be created by the inaugural YAB members.

Additionally, town staff completed research on other local Youth Boards to learn how to create a successful and sustainable Youth Advisory Board in Carrboro.    This research is also attached.

It should be noted that the proposed Youth Advisory Board will not interfere with the membership or volunteer work of the Youth Council overseen by Recreation and Parks.  The new YAB has also been discussed with Anita Jones-McNair, Recreation and Parks Director.

Finally, $500 has been budgeted for the Youth Advisory Board in the adopted budget FY2016-17.

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT:   $500 budgeted for the Youth Advisory Board in the adopted budget FY2016-17.
