Public Hearing to Authorize the Town Manager to Award a Construction Design Contract for Martin Luther King Jr. Park Development        

 

PURPOSE:   The purpose of this agenda item is to summarize the Martin Luther King Jr Park conceptual park layout and  request the Board of Aldermen to authorize the Town Manager to award a construction design contract.

INFORMATION:    The town is moving to the construction design phase of the park.  Town staff solicited construction design services through the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process in May 2016.   The Town is seeking a firm to  prepare construction drawings, documents and cost estimates for the development of Martin Luther King Jr. Park based on the modified option of the park conceptual design approved on February 2, 2016.   Updates on this project should come before the Board at 30%, 60% and 90%-final completion of the plan.  

 

The Town received four proposals -Stewart, CLH Design, McGill Associates and McAdams.     The evaluation process is underway.  The remaining timeline is below: 

June 24-June 30 - Complete interviews of short-listed firms and work with staff committee (PL, PW and RP) on selecting consultant. 

By July 1-Notify selected Design Consultant and begin contract negotiations.

By July 15- Complete contract negotiations with selected firm and Award Contract.

 

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT:   The Board has appropriated  $150,000 for construction design of the project. 

 

RECOMMENDATION:r It is recommended that the Board adopt the attached resolution, authorizing the Town Manager to award the contract.
