Title: A Request to Set a Public Hearing on the Temporary Street Closing Permit Application for the 2017 BCAN (Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network) AmpUp! Walk/Run to End Bladder Cancer. PURPOSE: The purpose for this meeting is to set a public hearing for a Street Closing Permit Application submitted by the BCAN for the temporary closing and usage of streets from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM on Sunday May 21, to accommodate the 2017 BCAN AmpUp! Walk/Run to End Bladder Cancer 5K. The even has grown since its conception and the applicant recently enlisted the help of Fleetfeet Sports to assist with the beneficial event. The applicant expects approximately 200 participants and to raise funds in excess of $15,000; most importantly the applicant hopes to create a greater awareness of bladder cancer. The event will continue at Fleetfeet sports after the conclusion of the race.

In accordance with Section 7-19 of the Town Code, a Public Hearing to receive public input prior to issuing a Street Closing Permit is required for this event.  The public hearing would be held on April 25, 2017.

 

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: The applicant will be responsible for all costs incurred by Police and Public Works to facilitate this event. The applicant will be sent an itemized bill for the final costs incurred by Police and Public Works. The applicant can also use a company which is certified to set up and manage road closures.

 

RECOMMENDATION:r It is recommended that the Board approve the attached resolution setting a public hearing for April 25, 2017.
