INFORMATION: Bladder cancer is the 5th most commonly diagnosed cancer and is one of the lowest in funding. The Triangle Chapter of the BCAN has successfully hosted the National Walk for Bladder Cancer in Hillsborough, NC but the event has continued to grow and now has over 125 participants. The chapter feels that it is to best support the growing event by enlisting the help of Fleetfeet Sports in Carrboro.

A map of the proposed closure is attached. The applicant has agreed to start the event at 7:00 AM to minimize impact to the downtown area.

In accordance with Section 7-19 of the Town Code, a Public Hearing to receive public input prior to issuing a Street Closing Permit is required for this event.

The applicant will provide Public Works with the required insurance 30 days prior to the event.


FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: The applicant will be responsible for all costs incurred by Public Works and Police to facilitate this event. The applicant will be sent an itemized bill for the final costs incurred by Police and Public Works.

RECOMMENDATION:r Staff recommends that the Board approve the attached resolution for the temporary closing and usage of the discussed route in order to accommodate the BCAN 5K:
