TITLE: Title

Request to Make an Appointment to the Board of Adjustment

PURPOSE:   The purpose of this agenda item is for the Mayor and Board to make an appointment to the Board of Adjustment and request that Orange County reaffirm the appointment.

DEPARTMENT: Town Clerk

CONTACT INFORMATION: Cathy Dorando, 919-918-7309

INFORMATION: There are two vacant seats on the Board of Adjustment.  Both seats are reserved, with exception, for Orange County residents that reside within the town’s extraterritorial planning area and the town’s joint planning transition area.  The exception is that if, despite good faith efforts, residents of the extraterritorial planning and joint planning transition areas cannot be found to fill the seats reserved for residents of such area, then the Orange County Board of Commissioners may appoint other residents of the county (including residents of the Town of Carrboro) to fill these seats. If the Orange County Board of Commissioners fails to make these appointments within ninety days after receiving a resolution from the Board of Aldermen requesting that they be made, the Board of Aldermen may make them.

The positions have been open for some time (possibly since 2013) now with no luck recruiting residents that qualify with their address.  Will Heflin has applied to the Board of Adjustment, attended meetings, and is recommended by the chair, David Collins.

The attached resolution requests that Orange County appoint Will Heflin to the Board of Adjustment.

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: N/A

RECOMMENDATION:r It is recommended that the Mayor and Board adopt the attached resolution.
