INFORMATION: Town staff investigated the possibility of implementing a time limitation for traffic to make right on red turns at a stop light. Per this investigation it was discovered that there are currently not any major safety factors resulting from right on red at any intersections in Town. This observation is based on records kept by the Town of Carrboro police department. Furthermore, it was observed that limiting right on red could negatively affect traffic flow in Town at already congested areas.

The following intersections were analyzed to determine if changing the right on red laws may have an effect on the accident rates. Traffic accidents were counted from 1/1/15-4/5/17.
? Weaver St & Greensboro St
? Main & Greensboro St
? Weaver St & Main St
? Lloyd St & Main St
? Jones Ferry Rd & Main St

It was discovered no accidents of any kind occurred due to a right on red conflict. Of the accidents that did occur, some involved right turns but, again, none occurred on red. Additionally, a few included pedestrians and bikes but, again, none occurred on red.
Main & Greensboro had 3 accidents that involved right turns, but not on red.

Below are the intersections where 10 or more accidents have occurred 2015-2017TD. It's worth noting that several of these do not have stoplights.
