PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is for the Board of Aldermen to continue the public hearing on text amendments to the Land Use Ordinance relating to the provisions in Article XIX, Screening and Trees, and the associated appendices to March 27th.

INFORMATION: On January 23, 2018, the Board of Aldermen opened a public hearing to receive comments on an ordinance relating to tree protection and tree replacement that included new requirements for tree canopy coverage. After discussion, the Board voted to continue the hearing to receive comments from the members of the Environmental Advisory Board (EAB) who, due to inclement weather, had not yet finished their review. Board members requested that the EAB receive questions and comments as part of the materials for its review and that the Greenways Commission be given an opportunity to review the draft ordinance. Staff recommends scheduling the EAB's review after the Board has approved the meeting minutes from January 23rd. Staff is also reading through the draft ordinance in response to all Board comments, and if modifications are needed will bring the working draft back to the Planning Board for further input. Based on this timeline, staff recommends continuing the public hearing until March 27, 2018.
