INFORMATION: Every spring since 2010, the Board of Aldermen has adopted a resolution supporting Earth Hour an international event designated by the World Wildlife Fund to raise awareness and demonstrate a commitment to address climate change.  The event encourages people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour each year to show support for the planet and for stopping climate change.  This year (2018), Earth Hour will be held at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March, 24th.  (The World Wildlife Fund website with information on Earth Hour may be found at the following link: <https://www.worldwildlife.org/pages/earth-hour>.)

Participation in the event is consistent with the Board’s goals expressed in the Town’s Energy and Climate Protection Plan adopted in 2014, targeting municipal operations, as well as the Community Climate Action Plan, accepted in 2017, and provides a simple but visible way to draw attention to this important topic.  (Links to the Town webpage on Sustainability and Climate Change topics, including downloadable copies of the two plans may be found here: http://www.townofcarrboro.org/262/Sustainability-Energy-Climate-Change.)

A resolution has been prepared for the Board’s use.
