DEPARTMENT: Town Manager’s Office

CONTACT INFORMATION: Rebecca Buzzard, 919-918-7348, rbuzzard@townofcarrboro.org

INFORMATION: Rebuilding Together of the Triangle is requesting a grant of $17,342 to be used for a critical repair at the home of 1801 N. Greensboro St. in Carrboro.

The issues being addressed include:

1) Continual sewer drain issues.

2) Interior dampness for lack of HVAC system to remove humidity.

3) Kitchen water damage to floor from plumbing leaks -subfloor, framing, and new floor repaired by family & in good condition to finish. No cabinets, sink or stove in kitchen, only microwave.

The Affordable Housing Advisory Commission reviewed the original proposal on 8/15/18 and had some follow up questions. The responses provided by Rebuilding Together are included in Attachment D. The nonprofit was able to trim the costs from the original request of $26,599 by getting a drain issue solved without replacement and Boer Brothers was able to get the HVAC price down as well. On 9/19/18 the AHAC voted to recommend the Board of Aldermen approve the revised request for critical home repairs.

The complete revised request for funding can be found in Attachment A.

Town staff has evaluated this request and determined that it meets all eligibility analysis criteria.

A full analysis of eligibility can be found in Attachment B.

If the Board chooses to fund this request, it may do so by passing the resolution in Attachment C.

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: Rebuilding Together of the Triangle is requesting a grant of $17,342 to come out of the Affordable Housing Special Revenue Fund.

RECOMMENDATION:r Staff recommends the Board consider approving the resolution in Attachment C.
