Continuation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Quote Plaques
PURPOSE: The purpose of this agenda item is for the Town Council to approve five quotes needed for the walking trail plaques.

INFORMATION: On November 19, 2019, the Board of Aldermen approved three quotes for the walking trail plaques:
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that”
“Everybody can be great, because anybody can serve”
Staff was asked to seek additional input from the following organizations:
Carrboro Youth Advisory Board
Carrboro Youth Council
Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP
Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP Youth Council
Truth Plaque Committee
A suggestion box was also available at the Youth Led Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Life and Legacy Celebration and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Ribbon Cutting Event.
Attachment B. includes quotes for your consideration. The list is comprised of quotes from the initial list combined with new quotes. The number after various quotes reflect how many people voted for that quote from the first list. The quotes near the bottom of the listing reflect new quotes for consideration.
FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: No additional fiscal impact. Plaques and installation are included in the project budget.
RECOMMENDATION:r Approve the resolution.
