Town Council Adoption of Amendments to the Town of Carrboro Advisory Board Recruitment and Appointment Policy
PURPOSE: The purpose of this item is to update the policy as it relates to recruitment and appointments to advisory boards.

INFORMATION: Town Council discussed this item on November 17th and asked for staff to modify the language in the policy to develop a goal regarding the Town Council’s priorities related to expanding the racial diversity and representation on advisory boards. The amendment has been drafted and is attached for the Town Council to review and revised text shown in RED. This language has been reviewed by Anita Jones-McNair, the Town’s lead on the GARE initiative, and the Town Attorney.
Staff has also attached information related to the current makeup of advisory boards and percentages of the comprehensive racial representation with comparisons to the most recent Census data for Carrboro.
The Town Clerk and Town Manager will work to allocate funds in FY 21-22 for reimbursement for transportation and childcare issues for advisory board volunteers. Additionally, the Community Survey will further explore the issues related to advisory board volunteerism and interest when there are funds available for this project, post-COVID19 fiscal impacts.
FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: There is no fiscal or staff impact associated with this agenda item.
RECOMMENDATION:r Staff recommends that the Town Council adopt the attached amendment.
