PURPOSE:  The contract for Stantec, the transportation engineering firm preparing the pavement marking and signal plans for the East Main Street restriping project, is scheduled to expire at the end of December.  The purpose of this agenda item is to authorize the Town Manager to extend the contract with Stantec to align with the current project schedule.

INFORMATION: In October 2018, the Town engaged Stantec, a transportation engineering firm out of Raleigh, to prepare a capacity analysis and pavement marking plan for East Main Street to allow for the cross section to be modified during NCDOT’s upcoming resurfacing project; the new cross section would include bike lanes and other bike infrastructure.  The project has been delayed twice, first due to NCDOT schedule changes and more recently due to an OWASA pipe replacement project.  The resurfacing project is currently scheduled for late spring/early summer of 2022.  A contract extension is needed to allow for Stantec to finalize plans and to participate in the bid process as the project moves forward.  

 

FISCAL & STAFF IMPACT: The amendment is necessary to extend the contract period to align with the current project timeline.  If additional costs are needed to complete the project, staff will bring back a future agenda item for the Council’s consideration/approval.  

 

RECOMMENDATION:r Staff recommends that the Town Council consider the resolution (Attachment A) authorizing the Town Manager to execute a contract extension for Stantec.
