INFORMATION: Design for the Jones Creek Greenway project (TIP# C-5181) is now at 90-percent complete, and the plans, specification manual, and related permits have been submitted to NCDOT and other state agencies for review. It is at this point in the project process that the design firm prepares the Engineer's Estimate for the anticipated cost of construction. Staff has been working closely with Wetherill Engineering, the project engineer, to monitor construction costs throughout the design phase. Costs have remained relatively stable until recently. The current Engineer's Estimate for construction has increased from $575,000 to $700,188[RW1][CM2]. This increase also affects the cost of construction inspection (CEI) services and the recommended contingency which are both based on a percentage of the cost of construction.

The anticipated increase in the total project budget is $256,000. The Town has local discretionary (STBG-DA) funds available that could be allocated to the project by way of a STIP amendment administered through the DCHC MPO. STBG-DA funds require a 20-percent local match. The request to allocate $256,000 of STBG-DA funds would include $204,800 of federal funds (80-percent) and $51,200 of local match. [RW3][CM4]
